PSV: Book Reading & Discussion with Olivia V.G. Clarke

Join us for a virtual book reading and discussion about navigating and thriving as a girl in independent school. Moderated by Lauren Stockman Brown, the discussion will be geared towards middle and high school girls, however with parent supervision, elementary-aged girls in 5th & 6th grade are welcome to participate. About Olivia V.G. Clarke (in her own words): Hi, I Am Olivia V. G. Clarke a student, leader, and activist in diversity work. My book, “Black Girl, White School: Thriving, Surviving and No, You Can’t Touch My Hair” is a #1Amazon Bestseller in three categories and #1 New Release in seven categories.

I serve as a leader on my school’s Diversity Executive Board, handle outreach and marketing for the Diversity Club help plan diversity conferences as well as lead student-run faculty development activities. I am a part of the 2019 & 2020 class of Black Girls Lead Conference created by Black Girls Rock founder Beverly Bond and a member of the Olive Tree Foundation Scholarship Program. I am also a multi-year full scholarship attendee of the Humanities and Cognitive Sciences Summer Institute at The Ohio State University. In 2018 I was selected as part of a four student, full scholarship group sent to the Student Diversity Leadership Conference. Expanding on myself largely self-taught Korean language studies, this summer I was selected to study Korean as a 2020 Finalist of the NSLI-Y Summer Intensive Program through the United States State Department and am now making college decisions as a QuestBridge Scholar.

But hey, I'm still a regular 16 year-old Senior who has to study for the ACT/SAT and sort through college info. I like to hang out with my friends, dance, binge watch K-Dramas, eat potatoes, listen to all kinds of music. And ducks. I love ducks.

About Lauren Stockman Brown: Lauren is a passionate storyteller and writer who focuses on race, gender, mental health and politics. She is a Fulbright Scholar and founder of “My Colorful Nana,” a collective of "Generous Thinkers" creating space for discussions on race. They celebrate individuality, “beauty,” and Black hair as an educational and creative platform that encourages our listeners to define "identity" on their own terms.
