Representation matters at all levels of the private school community but especially at the Trustee level. PSV’s Trustee Leadership Program will open doors to board opportunities both within private schools and beyond for Black PSV community members while also resourcing and supporting current Black Trustees.

Through a mix of focused trainings on best practices, governance, trends, and more, PSV hopes to measurably impact board representation and better support additional resourcing for families of color in private schools. This program is for:

1. Current Black Trustees: Whether you’re a seasoned Board member or new to service, this group is designed to offer a range of support so that Trustees are knowledgeable about issues and trends, well-versed in Board governance, and can fully thrive in their service to the respective schools. An essential element of this part of the program is to foster connectivity between current Trustees so that they can be in community too. As such, there will be quarterly zoom calls to check in, discuss best practices, and provide need-based training. Each Trustee will be required to verify service from their school in order to participate and they will also need to sign a general confidentiality agreement to protect the integrity of service to respective schools. The PSV Trustee Leadership Program will discuss best practices and process needs for insight and individual assistance anonymously to protect any proprietary school information.

2. Black Parents, Caregivers, Administrators, Faculty, Staff & Teachers: A central component of the program will be the availability of annual training to educate interested adults about boardship. Additionally, the program will provide partial sponsorship to a select number of participants to attend the African-American Board Leadership Institute Board Leadership Program, a 3-week virtual co-hort program that provides more in-depth training and information on nonprofit board governance. Participants who successfully complete their program are eligible to receive certificates in board governance and assistance with placement on governing boards or commissions.
